Specialized in contemporary art, on the first market, and opened on October 6, 1994 on the initiative of Jérôme and Emmanuelle de Noirmont, the Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont represents French and foreign artists of worldwide recognition.

Its initial purpose was to make art lovers discover internationally recognized artists whose work was completely or partially unknown in France, including the Scott David Mach, the German a.r. Penck, the timeless couple McDermott & McGough, and also the American Jeff Koons who had his very first personal show in France in 1997 at the gallery (Koons’only one-man show in France up till now!)

Wanting to honour three of the greatest artists of our time, ten years after their death, the gallery organized three large retrospectives between 1997 and 1999 devoted to Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and finally to Keith Haring with the gallery representing his Estate in France since 1999.

This interest for the New-York art scene led the gallery to exhibit and represent Francesco Clemente (it organized its first painting show in France, in April 1997), George Condo (since 2001), French artists settled in New York like Bernar Venet (since 2001), Anh Duong (since 1999) or Brigitte Nahon (since 1997), and also the exiled Iranian Shirin Neshat (it produced her film Rapture in 1999).

In this first-market activity, the gallery dedicates itself also to great French talents, representing in exclusivity the couple Pierre et Gilles (since 1998), the French photographer Bettina Rheims (since 2002), and as from 2005, Fabrice Hyber, awarded the Golden Lion of the 1997 Venice Biennale.

Carrying on its desire to discover new talents and to present today's art in its diversities of expression in a spirit of complete freedom, the gallery has been supporting since 2002 Claudine Drai, Benjamin Sabatier, Yi Zhou…

As any first-market gallery, along with its support in the production of their works, the gallery aims to promote permanently the artists it represents by publishing catalogues or monographic documents, by investing itself in their monumental projects (e.g. creation of Split-Rocker by Jeff Koons for the exhibition La Beauté in Avignon in 2000), by participating in fairs (FIAC in Paris, Artefiera in Bologna, Moscow World Fine Art Fair in Moscow, SHContemporary in Shanghaï from September 07), and above all, by organizing important museum retrospectives in France and worldwide.

In the same way, Jérôme de Noirmont shows his commitment to the art market, being a member of the French Art Galleries Committee, a member of the Strategy Committee of Artefiera Bologna, and a member of the Export Committee of Cultures France.

Jérôme and Emmanuelle de Noirmont decided to close their gallery in March 2013 in order to pursue new adventures with the artists and to promote its collection of artworks built over 18 years of activity through loans to institutions and offering a selection for sale.
