| ||My first meeting with Leonor Fini twenty years ago was a memorable event in my life. Her entries into any room were always spectacular and in this case she was particularly beautiful, with enormous self-assurance, wearing a sweeping, theatrical dress. Leonor was like no other woman, like no other human, or other species for that matter. Hers was a natural allure and distinguished bearing. Then too, she was intelligent in ways that only she could be. I was instantly seduced, speechless and when she asked me questions, I had trouble finding my wits to reply. She challenged and verbally duelled with me and timidly I did my best to overcome her subtle confrontation. I thought I was making conversation, but in the end I realized that it was in fact one long monologue at the end of which it was decided that we would see one another again very soon.|
Eventually I came to understand that, at that first meeting, she had decided that we would see what would happen if I became her art-dealer. From that moment we collaborated and became friends. Our friendship evolved, was constant and blessed with mutual complicity and the making of plans for the many exhibitions and projects we did together.
When Leonor died in 1996 there was a great emptiness in our lives. With the help of her friends we created a gallery in Paris devoted exclusively to her work. It is called Galerie Minsky because it is a term of endearment that she often used. This is Leonor Fini's gallery.
