Exhibited at the Museum of Ostend in 1987 Characteristic of Albert Rubens is 'ordering', both in his art and in his daily existence. Each work is the geometric externalisation of a long thought process. After starting with flat surfaces, the artist opted in 1965 for the cube as the point of departure, which implied also the step to the three-dimensional world. To implement this change Rubens added new materials like wood, steel and granite. The image, as it were, steps out of the material and settles into the middle of an area intended for it. Work by Albert Rubens is on permanent display in numerous museums from Oostende to Kemi, from Canterbury to New York.
