A recurrent theme is the anthropomorphization of antique stringed-instruments cases from violins to cellos. A famous collector himself, Mestach has created a mysterious world, combining his own assemblies with the powerful creations of anonymous artists from the dark continent. His constructivism is based on strict mathematical principles. His creations are full of symbolic meanings, erotic and initiatory allusions, inviting us to rediscover the trails of the collective memory. Mestach's sculptures combine humour and irony with a serious exploration of mental and emotional correspondences between ancestral forms and modern art. Retrospective exhibitions in The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and in the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City.
