During her studies Simonetta Jung ( Palermo 1917 - Brussels 2005 ) took a special interest in Science and the theories of Plato and Einstein, who claimed that abstract art would one day be able to express complex interstellary relations. She first exhibited in Milano in 1954 where she met Lucio Fontana, who called her paintings "spatial art". She became a member of the "Movimento Arte Concreta - Gruppo Spaziale". Her first cycle of works are the "Forma-Luce" compositions. In 1955 she exhibited at the famous Duveen-Graham Gallery in New York. Her work enters into important american private collections and museums. Around 1958 she starts a second cycle 'Tensioni Formative", closely related to abstract expressionism and Cobra. In 1961 she makes a canvas "Idea Materia no 19 - The Beginning" for the White House after the election of J.F.K. Living in the USA, Jung embarks in 1972 on a new cycle of works entitled "Homo Novus", symbolizing the human being turning into a robot. By the end of the seventies, she starts the "Elountha" series, named after a village in Crete. The anthropomorphic effigies irradiate a sense of calm, silence and solitude. Although her work has been crystallized in various distinct periods, they are in fact organically linked by a slow natural evolution. Works at a.o. Columbia University, NY, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Bruce Museum, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, Stanford University Museum, Brandeis University Museum etc..
